About: Murphy's PubHouse is a concept designed by Ryan & Craig Stonebraker. The family has been entrenched in the food and beverage business in Indianapolis, IN, since the 1950's. The Original Murphys Steakhouse on North Keystone and Stoney's Liquor store on the east side of Indy has been owned and operated since the 1970's by their father, "Stoney." We went to their Fishers location in our search for patty melt perfection.

Authenticity: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Murphy's "Patti Melt" had caramelized onions and Swiss cheese on marble rye bread, as close to patty melt orthodoxy as you can get.

Taste: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️★

The Patti Melt started with a high quality beef patty, so it tasted quite good. In addition, the elements blended well together. However, it lacked anything special to make it stand out from the crowd of contemporaries of better than average patty melts.

Value: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️★

The cost of the meal was $16, which also came with a side of fries or chips. Not bad, but not exceptional either.

Ambiance: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️★

Murphy's seemed to have an Irish pub environment, similar to Dooley O'Toole's or Loughmiller's. Our first impression was that the place was very busy, but in reality it was just noisy. There were lots of TVs playing sports channels, as well as live music on Wednesday nights (which was when we went). The live music was nice, but it was unfortunately too loud for a conversation, which caused more people to talk louder, contributing to the busy atmosphere.

Total Experience: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️★

The food was great, our server was pleasant, and the overall experience made us want to return to try one of their burgers- if only the drive wasn't so long for us.

Summary: Murphy's Pubhouse was an enjoyable experience with an above average patty melt. However, the patty melt had nothing special to entice us back for another one. That combined with its loud atmosphere and long distance from us makes us less likely to return in the future, but if you're looking for a good patty melt in the Fishers area, Murphy's Pubhouse is definitely where to go.

Leadership Lessons: When I first walked into Murphy’s Pub House, my first impression was that the background music was far too loud, making conversation difficult. As I listened closer, I noticed all the songs shared the same style and voice. Eventually, I realized there was live music playing in another corner of the pub. Discovering the source changed my entire experience. Too often, our first impressions do more than simply inform us. Being lazy, we allow them to shape our entire perception. If we’re not careful, confirmation bias can take over, causing us to see what we expect instead of what’s really there. By cultivating curiosity and empathy, we can add depth to our first impressions to make wiser, more discerning judgments. I came to realize the Wednesday night live music at Murphy's added to the atmosphere for their regular patrons, even though I was not a personal fan.
